Digital Art and Photography Printing

Whether you are submitting digitally created art, digital photography, or traditional film photography, we have a process to ensure we are producing the highest quality prints possible.  We have a consistent track record of providing industry leading fine art prints that are featured in galleries, museums and private collections across the globe.

Step 1: Image Review

When working with Old Town Editions quality is our main concern.  Once we receive your images and print request we will perform a file review .  We will look at color, clarity, file size, and whether there is any evidence of digital manipulation. If you are providing us with a photographic file that you have edited, we may request to also see the unedited version to make sure that there has not been any loss of detail or resolution. When we review your file we will make sure your image is at an acceptable resolution for the size you want to print. If you want to potentially avoid image processing fees please make sure that the file meets the specifications outlined on our file upload page.

Once we have reviewed your file we will let you know what proofing or file preparation steps we require before printing. You will always have the opportunity to fix yourself what we find deficient in your file. This file assessment step ensures the prints that leave our shop are of a uniform high quality. Some files need special sizing and editing, color balance, sharpening, or tonal adjustment. We cater our process to the image being submitted. If you can not do the work yourself, one of our technicians will do the work for you.

For career photographers who have an understanding of closed loop color management, there may be an opportunity for direct output.

Step 2: Proofing/Editing

A proof is required before any final prints are created.

Proofing with basic adjustment: $50 ea. (one time fee)
We require at least one proof be printed for your approval before we print your edition. In this category we will be applying the correct profile for our printers, sharpening, and a small color balance adjustment if necessary.  This fee includes one proof.  In the event that you want any additional changes to your file and multiple rounds of proofing with advanced adjustments you would then pay the remaining $75 for the full Image file Preparation.

Image File Preparation: $125 ea. (one time fee)
This is our full service option. We spare no effort in creating the best print possible.  This is the all inclusive option that includes advanced adjustments and multiple proof prints.  Image file preparation involves exacting color and tonal corrections in image editing software to optimize your images for the substrate of your choice. This process includes proofing, color correction, generous cleanup, retouching, image archiving, custom image editing, and digital restoration.

Proof Pricing By The Square Inch ($.25/in²):
This is for files that are completely ready for printing with no adjustments necessary.  This category fits seasoned professionals with calibrated monitors and previous printing experience.  We can share our paper/printer profiles for soft proofing on your monitor if requested.  If your file is color balanced, sharp, and embedded with the Adobe RGB 1998 color space, needing no tonal adjustments, we can offer proofs at a square inch or sheet printing price. The file submitted for printing needs to be at least 200dpi at the inch size of your final print.

Please note: If we feel that the images require editing that is beyond the skill level of the photographer or artist providing the file then we reserve the right to not accept an image for printing without a required file preparation. We provide the industry leading quality for archival pigment prints and require this attention to detail to keep to our reputation.

Quantity Discount for File Prep Charges (pricing on multiple images):

Number of files 1-5 6-10 10+
Price per file $125 ea $100 ea $90 ea

Step 3: Printing

Once you have completed the Image Review, File Prep (if necessary), and have approved a proof, we archive your image for future printing and you are ready to start printing. We price paper and canvas prints using two different methods. Most paper printing is priced by the sheet while canvas and oversize paper prints are priced by the square inch. We choose to offer our paper printing on the largest flat sheet available to ensure beautiful flat prints when you leave our studio.

For photographers willing to learn:
We have designed a program to work hand in hand with photographers. This program is based on the notion that a great majority of photographers would like to be involved in the image editing and the printing of their work. The program caters to each specific photographer’s needs. Every photographer has different levels of experience with image editing software and preparing digital files for printing.

We will sit down with each photographer and assess the images provided to us for printing. We will offer feedback and instruction to prepare ones own images for printing. This will allow photographers to avoid paying the additional prep cost in the future when submitting files for printing. To qualify for this one must know how to use the most recent versions of Adobe Lightroom and/or Photoshop and must also be willing to pay for an image file prep per image.

If we feel that the images require editing that is beyond the skill level of the photographer then we will suggest that the photographer choose to have us perform the File Preparation.
