Price Your Prints To Sell

Don’t worry, lots of artists struggle with this aspect of their business. We’re here to help!

As many artists have experienced, pricing giclees incorrectly can leave you frustrated from lack of sales. The most important thing to realize is that not everyone’s giclees are going to be priced equally. If you price your giclee prints based on the correct factors from the beginning, you should have a lot more success.  Two of the most important factors that affect your pricing are the quality of your giclees and your reputation as an artist. Limited Edition Sizes.

As an artist or photographer it is important to plan out a strategy for print sales.  This will prevent you from depreciating your own print values by over-saturating your market.  Limited edition sizes can help your prints be more desirable amongst collectors.  Limited edition giclees or digital fine art prints have smaller editions than traditional offset lithography print runs of hundreds or even thousands. A digital fine art print edition usually will not exceed 250 prints at the most.

Protecting Your Copyright.

Your copyrights are safe with Old Town Editions.  You retain all rights to any work produced or printed.  You must be the owner or have express written consent from the owner of any copywritten work you intend to have printed.  The owner of the copyright protected work that we perform is the only person that can approve the release of a digital image or place an order for digital fine art prints. We will never reproduce any of your copyrighted images without your instructions or express permission.

Digital Restoration.

Older works of art and photographs frequently deteriorate over time. Light, humidity, and airborne pollutants all contribute to this deterioration. Often it is cost prohibitive to have a paper conservator restore an original historic document, painting or picture.  If you have an old painting, historic document, or aging photograph that is in fragile or damaged condition and you can’t afford hundreds or even thousands to fix the original this is your answer. Digital restoration is a low cost alternative to having the original restored.

Art Scanning & Photography

When done with the correct equipment art scanning or photography is called a digital capture.  A high resolution digital art capture of your original art can be one of the most important investments you can make as an artist.  Getting this high res digital copy preserves your copyright and maximizes your profit potential from each original you create. This is an important step to undertake before art leaves your hands. It is not necessary to commit to printing to get a digital image capture of your originals with Old Town Editions.  Schedule your appointment today.

What is a giclee?

A Giclee (pronounced ge-KLAY) print is a fine art print made with a high-end inkjet printer. When making a Giclee the artwork is captured, proofed and printed digitally. Prints are reproduced using precisely calibrated printers and archival inks. Giclee prints are quickly being recognized by the world’s leading galleries and museums as the finest reproductions available to date.
